Im officially back.
Having failled last year to make training last any longer than 2wks and being ill just before the GNR it got scrapped and I postponed my place til this year.
So far I've been much more productive and been training much harder. To try stave off the bordom and stopping after a few wks I've signed up to a summer series of 5k races, which seems to have helped loads. As it stands 2 races in Im starting to find my feet and being more regular with training. I'll put the results pages from the 2 races at the bottom of this and try to keep it abit more upto date. Who knows maybe Ill even manage a post a month! woot!
Running 5miles pretty regularly and have it down to about 45mins without putting too much effort in, fastest is 43 and slowest recorded was 46mins last night, but Im trying to shake off a cold so was taking it easy. Have done a 7mile too but only once but it went by easier than I expected which is encouraging. I have a proper-ish training plan from lucozade running thru the Great Run organisers but its a 16wk plan so doesnt start till mid june, which is good because I dont think Im quiet making the pace I should be just yet. I have a rather ambitious aim of doing the GNR in sub 1hr30, which for a 1st half marathon I think is non too shabby, espec as course ave for winning elite men is about 1hr dead-on..
Results from races are as follows:
Round 1, pos 68/140 time 23.32 %of Ideal course time 63.74
Round 2, pos 49/149 time 24.07 %of Ideal course time 66.63 3rd most improved, 4th unattached
Aiming for 70% of course time for next race on 14June.
Thats all folks!

Well, erm, erm..
Not much happening, the world appears to have gone miserably and cold..Trainings kinda been stalled by it. Still riding to work most days, which doesn't really count as its next to no distance, weather is looking abit better for w/e so maybe some riding to be had..
Payday brought new toys, but the worlds all sold out of Juicy 5's so waiting for stock to come in before new wheel can be fitted..Got lid, is super light and breezy.
Might get a pic of wheel uploaded once is got a brake and on my bike.
Looking forward to summer..Can get training properly then, for now will try get myself back in the habit from next week, providing weather is a bit warmer..
PeaceOut...

10' medium pace Dist..approx 1mile.
I'm back! Well kind of.
Thanks to Mr Matt for poking me about updating. Lack of update is thru lack of training. However the poke was enough to overcome my lack of motivation this evening and get me to go for a trail run tonight. Run went ok, foot seemed to hold up ok. Going to Deep heat it before bed, preventative as much as anything and hopefully it will still be ok in the morning.
On the plus side, this month I shall be receiving a reasonable bonus for having sold my soul to Barclaycard for a whole year. This means in 9, soon to be 8 days time I shall be able to afford my new brake, wheel, helmet and a few other random bike bits. ~BIG GRIN~ Inc. shall be a new mount for my computer so I get a better idea of mileage etc. I appear to have lost the old one whilst moving from Luton to sunny Stockton.
This w/e is the beer festival so I imagine training may not get back into full swing until next week.. ( STOP!! )

Just a quickie as not updated in a while.
Bearings have arrived at last, took all of about 2 mins. to fit and have bike working again.
Foot still weird, can't figure what the problem is but my current hypothesis is a tendon between my big toe and my ankle. My main reason for the madness is it seems to hurt less if I loosen my laces and that seems a sensible rubbing point. It seems to be easing, it's not hurting all the time but occasionally pang's and I'm getting good at spotting the pre-pang ache to try avoid it happening.
Training is semi on hold, going to use this week to ride as my test ride didn't upset my foot too bad, although it was starting to ache when I got back, hopefully riding will help get some strength back into it.
Today's Brake - Avid Juicy 5....cheaper with better reviews than the Mono Mini, for those that care!

| Doctor'd or not! |
[01 Feb 2006|10:12pm] |
Went to the Dr. Tues morning much to my bodys disagreement with the early start.
Dr looked at my foot and said " No swelling or bruising, doesn't look like anything serious. Come back if it still hurts in couple of weeks but try training gentle for a bit. If it does still hurt see Dr Barlow because he's a runner."
END! I might have para-phrased a little but I wasn't entirely convinced that Dr really took this seriously. I'm sure this would be much easier to work out what was wrong myself if it just hurt..It doesn't it stops hurting then it'll jump out and hurt like and really hurty thing..I think it's in my ankle but it hurts down the bone towards my big toe..It's entirely possible I've broken something, which would suck as they do nothing except tell you to take it easy with a broken foot.
For now I'm not training till next wk and taking it easy, trying different things to see what hurts and what doesn't to try self diagnose. Otherwise I shall go see other Dr who I've seen before and was much friendlier.
Bearings are still a no-show, L e-mailed them earlier for me and they've said if bearings not here by fri they'll send me more then claim against the PO. Frustrating, but my foots bad so prob a good thing and they've seemed really friendly about it.
Out of interest if you read this can you comment..PURLEASE, just so I know how many people are interested, otherwise boredom will prob get the best of me. Who's the Anon too...just being nosy !!
EDIT todays brake...Hope Mono Mini :D

Went running when I got home last night.. T'was dark and meh. Ran reasonably fast trying to build up some speed as well as just stamina, took about 7ish mins to do a mile prob a bit under really as I couldn't read my watch, and I had to walk abit whilst arsing with my MD player because it kept trying to unplug the headphones..Wasn't too bad considering it was freezing. Quite pleased with progress so far, but I think some of it is finding a level not progress but still all good..
Except..1st few runs I did in my skate shoes, which made my feet hurt. I thought it would go away so kinda ignored it but I think I had my foot stood on a few times in clubs and last nights bouncing in Barnsley appears to have done a bad. My foot is really painful today even braking hard in the car hurts. Looks like tomorrow morn will be a trip to the Dr's to see what they say. I'm guessing it'll prob just be a case of resting it for a week. Which would be a bummer as I'm just starting to get in to this now. Found a funky on Pumarunning.com which has training plans for 5k, 10k, half marathon and marathon..I was working through those picking up midway through the 5k as that's about my level atm. There's a 10k run in Stockton on the 1st May about when I should finish the 10k plan so I was gonna do that but if I have to miss a week not sure I'll be ready in time. MEH!
Still no bearings, but they have been posted so fingers crossed for an arrival soon. I guess with the foot it might be better if they get delayed.

5' easy 15' medium pace 5' walk dist: 2.3ish Miles
Not bad other day. L came with and rode whilst I ran for moral support as I really wasn't feeling very motivated. Went to Crown last night much dancing and foolishness, felt like I hadn't slept this morning so no running today. Although at 2140 I'm just starting to feel more human and awake so maybe a late one will help me get some sleep. Will see what happens.
Have ordered my bearings, fingers crossed they should arrive tomorrow. I was hoping they'd be here this morning but all the postie brought me was a bank statement telling me I'm poor. Poop!

[26 Jan 2006|12:28am] |
Didn't Run today, going tomorrow. Got up late and had opticians appointment.
My wheels aren't normal, so buying a hub isn't really an option as 24h MTB hubs seem to come in V-brake only flavour, possibly due to a lack of strength required for the stopping forces from discs. I did however find a random bearing company who are able to provide my odd size bearings for my odd wheels. Fingers crossed back on the road by Sunday. I have as a result of this resolved to save £10 a week by not forgetting my lunch for work and riding not driving enabling me to save for both a new front wheel and disc brake.
Disc brake of choice atm will be "Hayes HFX-9 XC" preferably the MKII with its purty looking disc. Wheel and hub are still up for debate, maybe a Hope hub as they're made in purty colours on a mavic rim. Again suggestions anybody?

To bring everyone up to date on what little I've done so far.
I've started riding to work everyday, a solid 2.5miles each way..not really earth shaking but something. However I've hit a slight problem with this on Sunday when I managed to dish 1 of my wheel bearing cartridges, it no longer spins, whilst riding home from Boro and taking some off-road. Hopefully this shall be put straight on weds tho. I have been considering buying a new hub and re-building the wheel so I can get a disc compatible hub and eventually upgrade to disc brakes. I think I'm lacking the skill required, but if you don't try...That could prove to be expensive tho and money is somewhat short atm.
Running is somewhat less fun..I started thinking it might not be too bad..thought I'd try a 2mile loop up to Tesco and back topping up L's phone on the way..My body objects to all the bouncing up and down, and I think my stomach has got so used to riding the muscles are half their normal size length ways. Also skate shoes aren't meant for running, and they rubbed on my achilles. Did another shorter mile which felt alot better then got new running shoes on Monday, pics at some point. Today's run was much better not sure if it was magic new shoes or just learning to control my pace more so I didn't out run myself. Think running is going to be a case of finding limits before I can start pushing them..
That pretty much gets you all up to speed..
Tomorrow I shall try to find a batt. for my bike computer, get wheel bearings or decide to get a hub and run some more..The excitement!!
